Hello,
I discovered your experience to study the conditions of survival
of difficult cactuses like the
Pediocactuses in way of disappearance. I
sow since several years following the advice of David Quail.
My collection consists of 600 sorts of succulents
(3000 plants) going from the Melocactuses to the Euphorbias passing
by the Crassulaceaes, Aloe, Fenestraria, Lithops, the all in two
greenhouses of which one heated for the winter to
6°C minimum by the heating of the house. The species
requiring all year round 10 or 20°C are put back
in the house in the beginning of October
(before the first possible frosts). No plant is placed outside of
the greenhouses nor in the ground.
Situated to 150 m of altitude, the climate is maritime
moderate
by the Gulf stream but in general humid especially in fall and
winter.
The extreme temperatures go from + 30°C to -20 °C.
This summer we knew exceptional conditions with temperatures of 40°C
during weeks and a beautiful drought as
everywhere in Europe. You will find some photos of it. jpg of the
urban agglomeration of Charleroi (50 km of Brussels - 300.000
inhabitants)
Let me know if my involvement interests you, and again bravo for
this initiative.
