I
would like to participate in the Winter hardy test. The location
where my collection is kept is in Athens, Greece. The collection is
housed on the 4rth floor of an apartment in the centre of Athens,
near a park ("Pedion Areos"). The altitude of the place should be
around 300 meters above sea level. The balcony is of an "L" shape
with a total plan area around 120 m2. One part of it is facing north
and the other is facing west.
The
west facing balcony is protected from rain during the winter months
with an overhead tent. The maximum temperature recorded in shade is
42 degrees C and the minimum -3 degrees C. The relative humidity
during the winter months is relatively high, due to the park which
is near by. In the early hours during winter condensation which
forms during the night can be seen on the plastic tents.
The
north facing balcony is protected during the winter months with
vertical and horizontal retractable tents from heavy duty
transparent plastic, thus creating a kind of green-house, cutting
out wind, rain and humidity. The minimum temperature recorded is 1
degree C and the relative humidity is lower. During the summer the
tents are rolled up.
