Dictionary of botanic terminology - index of names

     
  A part of an organism (animal or plant) consisting of an uniform aggregate of cells having a similar morphological structure and related intercellular substances which act together to perform one or more specific functions in the body.  

Note: The term tissue is also often applied in a wider sense to all the materials or elementary tissues, differing in structure and function, which go to make up an organ (e.g.  vascular tissue)
