  The property of a material of transmitting light through, with little or no interruption or distortion so that images on the other side can be clearly seen. The opposite of transparent is opaque.

Diaphanous: so thin as to allow light to pass through without diffusing it. able to be seen through with clarity, often appearing clear or coloured and glasslike. The transparency is the quality or state of being transparent.

Differently when light is transmitted with diffusion so that objects on the other side cannot be clearly seen is a quality defined translucency.


Examples of transparent materials are: crystals (e.g. diamonds) and water.
