Description:
It forms large low
clusters of soft rubbery textured red-chocholate crested
stems, only a few centimeters across and plant looks more like some
non-cactus
succulent than a
cactus.. Rarely a
spine or a
hair. The shows many growing
variations with different crested and monstrose shapes.
Cultivation: This
plant is usually found grafted but grows well on its
own roots too. It is a summer grower species easy to cultivate.
Needs good drainage and very porous potting mix. Water regularly from
Spring to Autumn, but do not overwater, keep well
ventilated as it is prone to
root rot. In Winter, keep dry. and protect from
frosts and
freezes. Hates the full summer sun.
Reproduction: grafting, or
cutting, since the plant offset abundantly. These offsets can be
detached and planted as they root easily with no assistance when
they touch the ground.
