Family: Cactaceae (Cactus Family) 

Scientific Name: Echinopsis sp. cv. CHOCOLATE
(forma mostruosa cristata)

Origin Garden origin (Nursery produced cultivar)

Conservation status: Listed in CITES appendix 2.
 

Description: It forms large low clusters of soft rubbery textured red-chocholate crested stems, only a few centimeters across and plant looks more like some non-cactus succulent than a cactus. Rarely a spine or a hair. This cultivar shows many growing variations with different crested and monstrous shapes.
 
 



 

 

Cultivation: This plant is usually found grafted but grows well on its own roots too. It is a summer grower species easy to cultivate. Needs good drainage and very porous potting mix. Water regularly from Spring to Autumn, but do not overwater, keep well ventilated as it is prone to root rot. In Winter, keep dry. and protect from frosts and freezes. Hates the full summer sun.

Reproduction: Usually by grafting, or cutting, since the plant offset abundantly.
