  The dropping of leaves, fruits or floral structures upon maturation or at the end of a growing season.  
     
Shedding by a plant of its parts, such as leaves, flowers, fruits, or seeds following formation of scar tissue.
The abscission is the result of physical weakness in a specialized layer of cells (abscission layer) that develops at the base; The process is regulated by the plant hormone abscisic acid.
