  The plants  whose life cycle take between twelve and twenty-four months to complete.  
     
 In the first year the plants grow leaves and stems (vegetative structures) and then they enter a period of dormancy over the colder months. The next spring/summer they produce fruit, flowers and seeds, and then die.
