Corm  [ Botany ]

Dictionary of botanic terminology - index of names

An underground fleshy storage organ in plants that bears adventitious roots and scale leaves.

It looks like a bulb, but is solid (it is not formed in layers).  It may function as an organ of vegetative reproduction in perennials. Corms are not roots but stems (see also tubers and rhizomes).
