  A drought is a long period of extremely dry weather, when there is not enough rain for the successful growing of plants or for the replenishment of water supplies. Aridity.  
     
Drought is brought about when there is a period with below average precipitation. This condition can arise, even in times of average precipitation, due to soil conditions (for example drought condition are more emphasized in a draining soil)
