  The soils ability to supply enough nutrients, water and air for healthy plant growth.  
     
The fertility is the capacity of soil to provide nutrients for plant growth.

Includes:
  • Chemical -supply of nutrients
  • Biological - population of micro-organisms
  • Organic matter being broken down by them physical
  • Soil structure necessary for water, air and nutrient storage.

 A fertile soil will have at least 5% organic matter and humus in it, and be crumbly.
