  In horticultural meaning a “rustic plant” is a plant with strong adaptability to different types of cultivation.  
In general meaning rustic means relating to, or suitable for the country, rough, not exigent, for this reason a "rustic plant" is a plant easy to reproduce, that does not fear the cold and even adapts to poor soil, that does not require chemical fertilizers/pesticides/herbicides/ fungicides and does not need particular care.
