Semi- [ Prefix ]

  A prefix to a verb or noun meaning:

1. Partial, partially, somewhat, imperfectly.
 
(e.g. semi-erect = somewhat erect, semi-dormant = partially dormant.)
2. Half
(e.g. semi-round)
3. Resembling, having some characteristics of something
(e.g. semi-tropical semi-vowel)
4. Occurring twice during a particular period
(e.g. semi-weekly)
 
     

The prefix semi may be joined to another word either with the hyphen (line) or without it.
(For example semi-erect or semierect )
