This is one of the
prettiest species with very large and decorative areoles, filled with
white wool. The spines are relatively short and the flowers are bright
pink-violet.

Description: The
Echinofossulocactus sp. LAU 1564 is a
solitary plant, up to 20 cm tall, 10 cm wide with very large and
decorative areoles.
Stem: Spherical, flattened, the
ribs are numerous (up to 50 or more) thin, with very
undulated or curled
ridges.
Areoles: Very large and showy filled with white wool.
Radial spines: There are about 4 bristle-like, silky, almost
transparent radial spines pointing downward, 1-2 cm. long, whitish to
cream-colored and partially erect; may be missing from upper
areoles.
Central spines: 3 to 4 much longer, and usually
pastel to tan coloured, they are straight except for the uppermost
one, which may reach 2-3 cm of length, flat, and often curved upwards.

Cultivation: Small growing and easy to to care
in normal and very drained
cactus compost and very willing to flower,
Because of it’s small size makes a
great potted plant specimen, great for beginning collectors, water
sparingly and allow to dry between watering, needs good drainage.
Watering should be curtailed during the winter months. Full sun but is
tolerant and prefers light shade during the hot Summer months. And
provide very good
ventilation. Frost Tolerance: does
not tolerate intense or prolonged cold (hardy to -5°C if kept dry.
Propagation: Seeds
(usually) or by the shoots of adult plants.
