Echinopsis 'Gossamer' ISI 99-10; HBG 82622, Schick 1373-9
 This famous hybrid posses long-lasting flowers that are quite simply unrivalled for their delicate beauty and huge size.

 

Description: This plant is one of the most popular and appreciated Echinopsis cultivars, it is the result of more than 20 years of devoted work by cacti enthusiast and hybridiser Bob Schick .
Stem: Spherical, up to10 cm in diameter.
Spines: 15 mm long.
Flower: Very large up to 15 cm (or more) across.
Tepals: Oblong to oblanceolate, ruffled near midline, light lavender-pink with darker midrib and a small rounded white area at base.
Throat-circle: White.
Filaments: White.
Stigma: Exserted, white central.

 

 


 

Cultivation: This plant is a summer grower species that offers no cultivation difficulties.  Water regularly in summer (but do not overwater ) needs good drainage and very porous soil,  keep rather dry in winter. Feed with a high potassium fertilizer  in summer.  Need a bright exposure, full sun or half shade in summer.

Family: Cactaceae (Cactus Family)

Origin Garden origin (A distictive cultivar created by cacti enthusiast and hybridiser Bob Schick )

Conservation status: Listed in CITES appendix 2.

 


Often the older a cactus becomes the more floriferous, the blooms it will produce sometimes completely cover the plant.
