  A suffix is a word element that is placed at the end of a word or word part to change its meaning or grammatical function and form a new word  


Follows a short list of some of the most common suffix used in biology and horticulture.

 

-able, -ible

Forms adjectives and means “capable or worthy of”

-free

A privative adjective suffix , denoting without, lacking, destitute of, not having;

forms verbs and means “to make or cause to become”

something written or drawn, a record

(Diagram)

-graph

something written or drawn; an instrument for writing, drawing, or recording

(Phonograph, seismograph)

-icide (or -cide)

Indicating killing or killer

-less

A privative adjective suffix , denoting without, lacking, destitute of,
not having;

-like

A suffix converting nouns into adjectives expressing closely resemblance to the noun
