Astrophytum myriostigma cv. LAIMAKE (columnar form)
Very rare and beautiful cultivar seldom seen in cactus collection.

Description: This rare cultivar is somewhat similar to the cv. HAKUUN, it only vary from it for its more columnar growth, smaller size, and for the very dense white flecks that condense forming linear bands and not cloud-like patches.
Stem: Slender and  thin, already in the youth phase. Dimension 22-40cm tall, only 4-5 cm in diameter.
Ribs: Usually 5.
Flowes: A little smaller than those of A. myriostigma, hardly 4 cm in length, pale-yellow, silk-shining.
Blooming season: Spring or early summer.

Cultivation:
Although regarded as a choice and difficult plant in cultivation it is relatively easy to grow. It is sometime seen as a grafted plant but grows very well on its own roots too. Use mineral well permeable substratum with little organic matter (peat, humus). Water sparingly from March till October and keep perfectly dry in winter at temperatures from 5 to 15 degrees centigrade. (but it is Hardy to -7°C for short periods) In the rest period no high atmospheric humidity!! Sun Exposure: Light shade to full sun.
Propagation: By seed, but plants are commonly grafted onto column-shaped cacti.
