  The "leaf joint" is just where the leaf join the stem, a node.  
     
A node or leaf join is the point of connection of a leaf with the stem from which bud arises. When taking cuttings, roots form most readily from this point as the node correspond to an area of active cells that will induce rooting when are exposed.
