Mesocarp [ Botany ]

Dictionary of botanic terminology - index of names

     
  The mesocarp  is the middle layer of a fruit wall or pericarp which consists of three distinct or dissimilar layers.  
     
In a succulent fruit the fleshy mesocarp is situated inside the skin (exocarp) and outside the stony layer (Endocarp), if any, surrounding the seed(s).

(For example, the fleshy part of some fruits like the pulp of peach)
