Vascular bundle [ Botany]
Also called: Fibrovascular bundle

Dictionary of botanic terminology - index of names

A vascular bundle is a compact strand of primary  vascular  plant  tissue consisting essentially of xylem and phloem and surrounding tissues, occurring in stem, leaf and flower.

In Cactaceae a clear ring of vascular tissue is on a cross section cut across the stem. This woody material also has a structural function and forms the supporting skeletons of many cacti.
