M. bocasana var. multilanata "splendens" forma cristata
This very beautiful plant has soft stems with  with an extreme abundance of short white woolly hairs and very short hooked central spines.
 

Description: Blue-green stems with white woolly hairy spines 
Spines: Radials 50-100, white, hairlike, 8 - 10 mm long, with one, occasionally two, short hooked centrals , reddish brown, 5 - 10 mm  long.

Scientific Name: Mammillaria bocasana
First description by Poselger, Allg. Gartenz 21: 94 (1853)

Common Names include:  Powder Puff Cactus snowball cactus; powderpuff cactus; fishhooks.

Origin Garden origin (Nursery produced cultivar)


 

 


Cultivation: It is a  rapidly growing  species.  Water regularly in summer, but do not over-water (rot prone).  Use pot with good drainage and a very porous potting media. Keep dry in winter. Feed with a high potassium fertilizer in summer. It is quite frost resistant if kept dry, hardy as low as -5° C (some reports give it hardy to -12°C).  Outside full sun or afternoon shade, inside it needs bright light, and some direct sun. A big clump can be produced in a few years.
Propagation: Division of larger clumps (cuttings) in spring or summer.
