The "PUP" or offset
usually remains connected to the main plant but easily fall off
and, taking root
and continuing to
grow as an
individual new plant. Pups are common source for
vegetative propagation of plants. (e.g.
Echinopsis)
Pups can be detached and used for plant propagation
when of a enough large size to be rooted on their own, or
uprooted and transplanted.
