Dictionary of botanic terminology - index of names

     
  The enlarged, rounded basal portion of a carpel or a group of fused carpels (the pistil) usually at the bottom of the flower which contains one or more egg cells (ovules).  

The ovary wall eventually develops into a fruit  and the ovules contained within the locule(s) develops into seeds after being fertilized.
